Today’s world cup semi-finals looks to be a tactical battle with the Dutch deriving most of the their dangerous attacks by the hard dribbling of Arjen Robben. The winger has been used to effectively move the ball in to the more dangerous parts of the field, taking defender after defender until he’s brought down by a desperate tackle leading to a free kick. From here fellow super Dutchman Wesly Sneijder show he’s deft skill at delivering the world class cross or shot that has brought Holland on to the brink of a world cup finals.
Only Uruguay stands in their way, the 2 time winners of the world cup. Led by Deigo Forlan, a striker in superb form and perhaps player of the tournament so far. Uruguay will be in tough today as FIFA has suspended Forlan’s strike partner, Luis Suarez for one match for his deliberate handball to deny Ghana the winning goal. Whatever happens today Suarez will always be a hero back home for making the ultimate sacrifice to help his team progress to the Semi’s.
With an hour to kick off, nearly all the world awaits to see this tow sides square off in what looks to be an epic battle of two desperate countries.
A wonderful flowing game, this match was a treat to watch. Van Bronckhorst crushed an amazing left footed strike in to the top corner in the 18th minute. Forlan tied the game with an curving shot down the middle of the park and the both teams went into the half deadlocked at 1-1.
The game was decided with a beautiful header from Robben; delivered from a perfect cross by Dirk Kuyt.
